ACA-1221ec Budget 68EC020 Accelerator Card
for Amiga 1200 and Amiga 500 with ACA-500(plus)
The ACA-1221ec is a low cost accelerator card for the Amiga 1200
and the Amiga 500 with
ACA-500 or
ACA-500plus expansion,
mostly aimed at classic gamers. It comes with a 68EC020-25 CPU clocked at
28.38 MHz. Since it offers 9 MB FastMem and mere 8 MB expansion
cards are usually more expensive than the ACA-1221ec, there's hardly
any excuse left not to upgrade your Amiga right away. :-)
Technical Data
- Processor:
MC68EC020-25 processor, clocked at 28.38 MHz.
- Overclocking: Clock can be changed to up to 42.5 MHz,
but this requires the right PSU and good cooling. We do not recommend
overclocking unless your A1200 is mounted in a tower case with a
suitable power supply and plenty of space for active cooling.
- Memory: 16 MByte of physical memory, 9 of which are
available as FastMem. Another MByte is reserved for the MapROM function.
The remaining 6 MByte are intended to be used as a RAM disk, but
the software for this is not done yet.
- MapROM: The ACA-1221ec supports MapROM from a cold start
(copies contents from physical Kickstart ROM to reserved RAM area
during cold boot). This option can be disabled via jumper.
- PCMCIA-friendliness: Although the ACA-1221ec completely fills
the Z2 space with memory, it keeps PCMCIA active with a patch that is
included in its Flash ROM. This makes the card fully PCMCIA-friendly,
although the CPU does not have the full address space.
- Clock ports: two, one fully compatible to the A1200 clock port.
Expansion Ports
The ACA-1221 features a generic clock port for the
real time clock module
or any clock port device. This clock port is a straight copy of
the internal A1200 clock port. One RTC module and one other
clockport device may be used concurrently (but not two clockport
devices). This is very useful for A1200 boards that do not have
the correct clockport assembly (early Commodore boards).
The second clock port on the card was designed especially for
RapidRoad.
